A collaborative scientific workshop “Navigating Peri-urban land transformations”

Location & approach

By car

The TU Dortmund campus is located near the Dortmund West interchange, where the A45 Sauerland line crosses the B1/A40 Ruhr expressway. The Dortmund-Eichlinghofen exit on the A45 leads to the South Campus, the Dortmund-Dorstfeld exit on the A40 leads to the North Campus. Coming from the A45, you can turn onto Stockumer Straße via Universitätsstraße. This in turn is connected to Baroper Straße, along which Campus South extends. If you take the exit of the A-40, the route via Emil-Figge Straße, Marie-Curie Allee to Baroper Straße makes sense. If you turn from Baroper Straße into August-Schmidt Straße, you have the possibility to reach the parking lot directly behind the GB III.

By bus and train

The South Campus is connected via Stockumerstraße by bus lines 440 and 449, which run every 10 minutes. Campus South can be reached on foot from the Am Gardenkamp stop, and the Eichlinghofen H-Bahn station is also located near the Eichlinghofen stop. The bus lines connect to the U42 light rail line at the Barop Parkhaus stop, which provides connections to the Dortmund-Hombruch district and Dortmund downtown.

The H-Bahn (Suspended Monorail System)

From Dortmund-Eichlinghofen, the South Campus is connected to the H-Bahn network via the Eichlinghofen H-Bahn station. Line 1 runs here every 10 minutes, and the South Campus is served by the Campus Süd stop.
A connection to Campus North is also provided via the H-Bahn. Line 2 shuttles between Campus North and Campus South every 5 minutes.

By plane

The AirportExpress is a fast and convenient means of transport from Dortmund Airport (DTM) to Dortmund Central Station, taking you there in little more than 20 minutes. From Dortmund Central Station, you can continue to the university campus by interurban railway (S-Bahn). A larger range of international flight connections is offered at Düsseldorf Airport (DUS), which is about 60 kilometres away and can be directly reached by S-Bahn from the university station.

The facilities of TU Dortmund University are spread over two campuses, the larger Campus North and the smaller Campus South. Additionally, some areas of the university are located in the adjacent “Technologiepark”.

A collaborative scientific workshop “Navigating Peri-urban land transformations”

A two-day scientific workshop titled “Navigating Peri-Urban Land Transformations” will be take place in Addis Ababa. The event will be held at the Urban Center | ከቤት እስከ ከተማ a space for dialogue, innovation, and urban development.

The Workshop will bring policy makers, urban planners, researchers, and representatives of the civil society and community in different neighbourhoods in Addis Ababa, to discusses on current challenges and perspectives in the transformation of peri-urban areas.

The goal of the event is to foster interdisciplinary exchange – covering topics such as urban governance, land management, and dynamics of land transformations at the interface of urban and rural spaces.

Through a panel discussion and open dialogues, experts will present scientific studies and position papers which will then be discussed with a broad audience from practice, academia, and civil society.

Contributors include representatives from:

The Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and City Development (EiABC),
TU Dortmund University, Research Group of Regional Development and Risk Management (RER),
The Center for Sustainable Development at Universität Addis Ababa,
Kotebe University of Education,
And the Ethiopian Civil Service University.

All interested individuals are warmly invited to participate, engage in discussions, and collaborate on shaping pathways for the sustainable development of peri-urban areas.
