Abschluss des Forschungsprojekts „DAZWISCHEN – Zukunftsorientierter Strukturwandel im Rheinischen Revier“

Project partners and numerous representatives from administration, science and practice came together at a closing event on 13 May 2025 in the Euskirchen district administration to honour the results and impact of the project.
The project, coordinated by TU Dortmund University in cooperation with the RWTH Aachen University, the infas Institute, the City of Düren, the District of Euskirchen and the Zukunftsagentur Rheinisches Revier, pursued the goal of developing and implementing practical solutions for sustainable development in the region. The first three years were characterised by research and concept development, followed by two years of implementing sub-regional action strategies on site.
The project partners presented concrete implementation successes at the event: The City of Düren developed an evaluation tool in the form of land use profiles to promote sustainable settlement development. The District of Euskirchen focused on decentralised energy supply and strengthening the blue-green infrastructure - visible, among other things, through flowering areas, nesting aids and façade greening around the district building.
A key result is the publicly accessible spatial information system, which provides comprehensive data on climate, mobility, settlements and services of general interest and thus offers districts, municipalities and the specialist public a sound basis for future decisions: ris.rheinisches-revier.de.
The close exchange between science and practice was emphasised by all participants as a decisive success factor. The project has not only provided practical impetus, but also shows how structural change can be organised in a participatory and future-oriented manner.
