iSCAPE: Wandering Tree Parade 2019 launched in Bottrop
- Projects
In the course of the current debate on clean air in German cities, but also the international climate change debate, urban green spaces and urban trees are strongly in focus. Within the framework of a real world laboratory as part of the EU project "Improving the Smart Control of Air Pollution in Europe" (iSCAPE), the IRPUD developed a project together with the city of Bottrop and its citizens to raise awareness, sensitise people and increase the local air quality and quality of stay: the Wandering Trees Bottrop! This year, mobile trees planted in tubs made their way through the city of Bottrop for the second time. While last year the trees wandered through an inner-city neighbourhood, this year's Wandering Tree Parade took place in several local primary schools. The primary school pupils tended and cared for the trees - especially in the hot temperatures of the last few weeks - until they finally migrated to the next primary school. This playful introduction to the importance of green in the city was a complete success! The walking tree parade was accompanied by other activities around the trees. Following the parade, the walking trees will find a permanent place in the schoolyards of the primary schools. The Wandering Trees Bottrop illustrate the importance and potential of such transdisciplinary real world laboratories, whose successes are visible to people directly and on site.
